If you’ve been following my blog and my posts, you would know by now that homeschooling is one of my life’s biggest passions. And every year, I always, always, always make it a point to encourage families to go to the annual homeschool conferences because these conferences are where you can get a proper perspective on homeschooling and find support from your…for lack of a better term, let me use one that bloggers use — “tribe.”
We’ve been independently homeschooling our kids for the past two years, and I can honestly say that it’s not for everyone. It can get really daunting but because we’ve found our homeschooling “tribe”, we get a lot of support and encouragement in our journey.
Philippine Homeschool Conference 2015 Events Director, Michelle Padrelanan, discussing homeschooling at Mornings @ ANC
The thing about homeschooling is that you need to break out of the box. You need to be open to learning from people from different homeschooling tribes, but most importantly, to listen from those who’ve gone ahead, families who have home schooled more than just one child, families who’ve home-schooled on a budget, families who followed curricula and families who have not.
In short, you need to hear from a diversified group of homeschooling nuts (I mean that in a positive way!), not just one or two families. You need to broaden your horizons and the homeschooling conference is the best avenue for it.
Why the biggest yet?
Because this year, we have the following speakers:
I think that homeschooling families need to understand that we have the opportunity to prepare our children to take on the world. Sadly, with the current DepEd requirements and regulations, it’s easy to fall into a short-sighted view on what we’re doing, which is just keeping up with the current curriculum and preparing them for accreditation examinations.
But home schooling is so much more than that. We’re raising our children to lead, not just this country, but nations. We need to understand that we need to prepare to send them out to make a difference in this world. To initiate changes that matter. To make a stand on things that others do not even dare speak about.
From our own community….
Of course, we have speakers from our own community, such as:
I was just talking about Ched Arzadon to our dinner guests a few weeks ago. I’m so thankful for this woman who, out of the abundance of her heart, updates the independent homeschooling community on DepEd guidelines, steps in acquiring accreditation, and all the necessary details that we need to know so we can prepare our children accordingly.
She gives us hope.
Kids Workshops at the Conference
A lot of homeschooling families are like us who take the barangay with us everywhere we go, haha. At the conference, there will be workshops at the homeschool expo that you can sign up your kids, 13 years old and above, to keep them busy as you attend the conferences.
Or you can join them and enjoy bonding while learning something new together!
