Easy Recipes: Homemade Ice Cream with Iced Gem Biscuits – Fully Housewifed

August 24, 2025 maximios Household

What a beautiful Sunday! Not too humid, if I may say so. The past few days had been unbearably hot that it’s been very difficult to stay away from sodas and Ice Cream. So if you have been pretty successful with your diet enough to deny yourself of these summer quenchers, good on you!

Last month, we received one of the best treats everrrrrr — Iced Gem Biscuits! I’ve been munching on Iced Gems since my preschool days so it’s not surprising that my kiddos love it just as much.

Baon mula noon hanggang ngayon (Snacks then and now)

I don’t know about you but Iced Gem biscuits take me back to some of the best times in my childhood. Like I said, I’ve known it since preschool. My mom used to run a preschool with a small store where my classmates can buy snacks, and Iced Gem was one of the most popular sellers.

Iced Gem was also a staple in my lunch box. I would share it with classmates during recess before we go running off to play skip rope or race around the play ground.

My kids’ childhood may be slightly different because they’re home schooled, but Iced Gem biscuits make these new memories just as sweet as mine had been.

Vanilla Ice Cream made better with Iced Gem biscuits

Anyway, I tried to keep the bags of Iced Gem biscuits away from the kids for a while because I wanted to create some fun desserts for them, but after a week, I just had to give in. I mean, how can you take away such delights from them, right?

So anyway, they ate all of them in two days time. Yup, you read it right — two days. And we got 4 packs? I did manage to keep a pack of Choco Iced Gems which I used to top our homemade Vanilla Ice Cream which I served our young tornadoes today.

Do you want to try it? Here you go:

What you need:

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream (Click here for the recipe!)
Iced Gem Biscuits Candy Sprinkles Marsmallow sprinkles

Chocolate syrup

How to make:

1. Put a few scoops of Ice Cream in a cup. 2. Add in candy and marshmallow sprinkles. 3. Add chocolate syrup.

4. Top with as many Iced Gem Biscuits.

That’s it!

So easy to make with your kids. If you have small ones like mine, this a great DIY dessert for them to make.
Why, even the Ice Cream is easy to do.

My 6-year old Judah was the one who prepared the Ice Cream yesterday. In our case, it takes 24 hours to chill our Ice Cream so aside from learning how to make one, he also learns that some good things take time.

Protect Your School-Age Children from These 6 Common Illnesses

August 14, 2025 maximios Household

As much as going back to school can be exciting for kids, the thought of returning to face-to-face classes can be stressful for parents. While your kids are away, you may be thinking about the illnesses or injuries they might bring home at the end of the day.

Of course, worrying about these things is understandable for any well-meaning parent. However, you can take the step towards proactively protecting your child by being informed about the common sicknesses they might experience. With that in mind, here are some of the most common illnesses that every Filipino parent should know about—and some tips on how to prevent them.

Viral Respiratory Infections (Common Cold, Sinusitis, and Flu)

The common cold is indeed a common ailment among children, especially during the rainy season. Although this illness is usually associated with cold weather and rain, the common cold is caused by a viral infection in the upper respiratory tract—not the weather. That said, cold viruses like rhinovirus spread easily in lower temperatures. Typically, young children can catch up to eight colds every year.

Symptoms of a common cold include cough, congestion, and a runny nose. Usually, colds will go away after 10 days. If your child experiences symptoms long after that, you may want to check with your doctor to determine if your child has bacterial sinusitis, an illness in which bacteria infects your child’s sinuses.

Moreover, if your child experiences a fever along with the other symptoms of the common cold, your child may have been infected by the influenza virus. The common cold, bacterial sinusitis, and the flu are all viral diseases that can be treated with antibiotics, rest, and healthy meals rich in Vitamin C. Fortunately, you have the option to buy medicine online so you can conveniently purchase your essentials and focus on taking care of your child.

One of the best ways to prevent the spread of bacteria is by reminding your child to wash their hands with soap and water. If possible, you can ask your child to bring alcohol or hand sanitizer to school as well. You can also make sure that your child gets their periodic flu shot for an extra layer of protection.

Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is another disease that Filipino parents should be wary of, especially since flooding due to persistent storms is not uncommon in the country. This bacterial disease occurs when floodwater enters the body through an open wound, allowing the proliferation of various contaminants including rat urine, and animal feces. If your child has scratches or cuts on their body and got exposed to floodwater, you may want to check for symptoms such as fever, chills, jaundice, and red eyes.

To prevent leptospirosis, you can have your child wear protective clothing such as rain boots and a raincoat during stormy weather.

Dengue Fever

Dengue is one of the most prevalent illnesses among children in the Philippines. Generally, kids are more vulnerable to dengue because they have weaker immune systems than adults. Children are also more likely to contract dengue since schools usually have plenty of open windows and outdoor areas for children to play in.

The Philippines’ tropical climate may also play a role in the frequent dengue outbreaks in the country. Because of the persistent downpour during the rainy season, the resulting floods and rain might result in the formation of stagnant water—the breeding ground of the dengue-carrying female Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti mosquito species.

Common symptoms of dengue include high fever, vomiting, rashes, fatigue, and pain in the body and behind the eyes. When the illness turns severe, your child might experience bleeding gums, bloody urine, and abdominal pain. It’s highly recommended to consult a doctor immediately once you suspect that your child contracted dengue. To protect your child from dengue fever, consider applying mosquito repellent on your child’s skin before they go to school and remind them to stay away from ponds or fountains with conspicuous-looking water.

Pinkeye (Conjunctivitis)

Pinkeye is a disease caused by the infection of the eye’s conjunctiva—the transparent membrane that lines the white part of the eye and the inner eyelid. If your child’s eyes are persistently teary, red, and itchy, they may have pinkeye. This ailment can either be caused by allergies or bacterial infections.

Pinkeye usually goes away after a week. If your child’s pinkeye was caused by bacteria, you can apply antibiotic drops to their eyes to help manage the symptoms. Aside from regular handwashing, you can prevent this disease by reminding your child to refrain from touching or rubbing their eyes. It’s also best to remind them not to share pillows or towels with others who have pinkeye.

Diarrhea

It’s important to ensure that children get nourished every day. But sometimes, contaminated food and water could give your child diarrhea. Apart from watery stools, your child may exhibit excessive thirst when they have diarrhea. When the disease is left untreated, your child may experience severe dehydration.

To ensure that your child stays protected against diarrhea, you may want to remind them to always be discerning of the food and water they ingest. Remind your child to stay hydrated with mineral water and as much as possible, avoid eating street food.

Chickenpox

Chickenpox is an ailment that typically requires your child to stay home for a week or two. Caused by the varicella zoster virus, chickenpox is highly infectious and can cause red spots and itchiness all over the body. Sometimes, fever can also come with the noticeable symptoms of chickenpox.
Besides reminding them to practice good hygiene, you can have your child vaccinated against chickenpox to prevent the disease and avoid lengthy sick days.

Help Your Kids Stay Healthy and Safe

No matter how often we remind them to be careful about their bodies, kids are still kids. Your child will inevitably come into contact with other people, primarily their schoolmates and teachers. On top of that, harmful bacteria could thrive in the food they buy or the surfaces they touch—be it their desks, the cafeteria table, the swings at the playground, or the seats of the jeepneys and tricycles they ride.

Still, you can help your child stay on top of their health by knowing the illnesses they are most susceptible to. While it’s true that your child will be exposed to risks when not under your supervision, you can stay one step ahead and impart some best practices that will eventually help them as they grow older.

Easy Recipes: Mrs. B's Cookery's Chicken Fajitas Recipe

August 14, 2025 maximios Household

If you’re familiar with my blogs, you know that preparing food and trying out recipes is one of my most favorite things to do in the world. I haven’t had much opportunity to do so lately, but when I tasted my friend Edz Bacani’s Fajitas recipe, I just had to try it for myself and blog about it.

I love Mexican food. When Jay and I were still doing gigs in Jupiter street, we would drop by the popular Mexican fastfood, Miggy’s, before we would trudge to EDSA to get a ride back to Las Pinas where we used to live.

There are no Miggy’s around where we live now, but there’s Mexicali several blocks up (Serendra), one of my favorite places to hang out in by myself when they’re not full house.

I always go for Burritos, but Tacos is so much easier to make. We usually have that here on Sundays when Jay and I are just too lazy to prepare anything else. One thing I like about most mexican food is that they’re usually affordable. Anyway, I read that Fajitas is Texan-Mexican, not purely Mexican.

(Read: Easy-to-prepare Taco Bowls on laid-back Sundays)

Enough of the chit-chat. Here are the stuff you need to get for your Fajitas:

Ingredients:

1/2 Kilo Skinless Chicken breasts (I got me a half kilo of chicken strips to lessen the slicing work)

1 Medium Cucumber, chopped
2 Bell Peppers, Red and Green, sliced thinly
1 Large onion (Mrs. B’s recipe says red, but I’m a great white onion fan!), thinly slice half of the onions, then, use the remaining half for the simple salsa below
1 Can of Corn kernels

2 Tbsp of Lemon (Philippine lemons will do, if you’re on a budget)
2 Tbsp Olive oil
1-2 cloves of Garlic, minced
Cumin powder
Chilli powder
Iodized salt
Ground pepper
Tomatoes and Onions (use half of the large onion above), chopped and mixed together to make simple salsa
Grated Cheese
Extra Lemon/s

Tortillas

There’s a lot of ingredients so it may seem like a lot of work, but nope, not a lot of work at all.

How to make Mrs. B’s Cookery’s Fajitas:

1. Marinade chicken using the following ingredients, then put in a glass container and chill for an hour.

2 Tbsp lemon juice 3 Tbsp olive oil 1 garlic clove, minced 1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

2. Put 2-3 Tbsp of olive oil in a frying pan on medium heat. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
3. Stir-fry the chicken strips until brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
4. Heat another Tbsp of olive oil. Stir-fry onions, cucumbers, bell peppers, and corn kernels.
5. Add in the cooked chicken. Mix.
6. Season with ground cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper (to taste).
7. Transfer to a serving dish.

8. Warm Tortillas in heated frying pan. Warm, don’t toast!
9. Serve topped with your simple salsa, grated cheese. Squeeze in some lemon juice for excitement!

So there you go, another delicious and filling recipe for you to try. I just love having friends who cook and share their recipes with me.

The Chocomaltee goodness of Milo in Milo Dino – Fully Housewifed

August 14, 2025 maximios Household

I received a couple of innovative ideas in my email on how to enjoy the chocomaltee goodness of Milo.

I love these ideas that I can turn into activities I can do with my kids. It’s part of our home school, and it certainly falls under “food science” category.

The best part is that its easy enough for my 4-year old to make. Since Jay took the rest of the afternoon off on Sunday to be with me on our 11th year anniversary, we decided to try Milo Dino with our kids for our afternoon treat.

I gave them all mason jars to use and proceeded on reading to them the instructions, which they all followed to the last letter.

Milo Dino

Here’s a list of what you need to make Milo Dino:

Ingredients:

2 packs of Milo (22 grams) 1/2 C Water 1/2 C Nestle Fresh milk Koko Crunch Sugar (optional) Ice, as needed

Candy sprinkle (Optional)

Here’s how my MILO Dino looks like:

My own version of MILO Dino

How to prepare:

1. Dissolve 22 grams of Milo in 1/2 cup of water. 2. Pour in Nestle Fresh milk. 3. Add Ice and stir. 4. Top with Milo powder. 5. Sprinkle on top with crushed Koko Crunch and candy sprinkles.

6. Serve!

Sugar is not optional in the original recipe, but we decided not to put sugar anymore as Milo is already sweet and flavorful without it.

I also forgot to buy candy sprinkles and chose not to crush the Koko Crunch. Nevertheless, it was a hit! Even I love the taste that takes me back to my childhood years.

MILO Dino is really spectacular in the mouth, especially if you love a good burst of chocolate in your palate. I don’t really know why the MILO Dino is called MILO Dino, but I’m guessing the sound of Koko Crunch is like the sound of a dinosaur chewing on something.

I really don’t know, haha, but the cold chocolate was, in Po’s words, at a very high level of awesomeness, and I’m sure I’ll feel the same way about MILO Scramble.

MILO Scramble

Ingredients:

1-2 tbsp of chopped mango jelly 1/2 C MILO 1-2 C of crushed ice 1 tbsp of sugar

1/4 C of Bear Brand powdered milk

How to make MILO Scramble:

1. Put mango jelly on 2-3 glasses. Blend MILO, ice and sugar together in a blender jar.

2. Pour prepared mixture in glasses. Top with BEAR BRAND Powdered Milk Drink before serving.

Here’s how it’s supposed to look like:

Who doesn’t love a good chocolate drink on crushed ice, right? Right.

What’s in MILO?

My kids love Milo just as much as I loved it in my growing up years. The email I got said that Chocomaltee is the delicious reason why we keep coming back for more.

Chocomaltee is a combination of malted barley, milk powder, sugar, cocoa and the power combination of vitamins and minerals, otherwise named Actigen-E.

Here’s a closer look at the ingredients of Milo:

As a child, I remember being served hot Milo all the time, but there are now a variety of ways you can enjoy it hot….and cold.

MILO is nostalgic!

If you’re a child of the 80’s, perhaps you remember Bea Lucero swinging on assymmetric bars to the background music that goes, “Great things start in small beginnings, growing up, reach early for your dreams…..” Aaah, tears! I’m pretty sure thousands of youngsters started dreaming when that ad was shown on TV.

For as long as I can remember, Milo have always been identified with energy. The kind you need for sports and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Who hasn’t heard of Summer Sports clinics that Milo participates in? Or MILO-B.E.S.T. Center Training Program, MILO Marathon, and MILO Little Olympics?

“Milo believes that these activities contribute greatly to the holistic development of Filipino champions – both in Sports and in life.”

At the rate MILO is going, it’s no wonder that it has become a mainstay in most Filipino homes and it will continue to be the leading beverage brand in the coming generations.

Set Them Up for Success home school parents conference

August 14, 2025 maximios Household

I thought at first that the 2015 TMA Homeschool Parents Conference: Set Them Up for Success was an exclusive event for enrollees of The Master’s Academy. I was very excited upon learning that they have opened it to non-TMA parents.

So if you’re toying with the idea of home schooling your children next school year or have been home schooling for a while and in need of booster training, this is a great conference to sign up for.

All in

Home schooling my children is one of the things I’m most passionate about. In my heart, I know that I can only do so much for my children and that it is the LORD that will define my children’s future, but in that opportunity that I’ve been given to prepare them for it, I am all in.

It’s always wise to learn more about home schooling, understand its principles and concept first before jumping into it. Home schooling is so much more than just making sure the kids are keeping up with their academics or saving up money, although those can be benefits that your family can enjoy among others.

Just yesterday, I was talking to a friend of mine who is considering home schooling for their children, and she was asking me if it was possible to teach all her three children at the same time. I encouraged her and her husband to attend the TMA home school parents conference where one of the topics to be discussed is multi-level home schooling.

Home schooling, in a nutshell, is training and equipping your children for real life. Most particularly, for their adult lives. The Set them up for success conference is geared towards helping parents do it effectively and successfully.

“Set them up for success is set to enlighten and inspire you  to raise your children to become happy, responsible, productive  adults and leaders “wherever they are planted”- Manila Workshops.

What to expect from the conference:

It’s a whole-day event. There will be keynote topics such as “Set them up for success” and “Catching your child’s God-given bents for success” with speakers like Edric Mendoza of TMA Homeschool and Jayson Lo, author of Younique.

Other sessions that you can sign up for are: (You can choose one track from Workshop A and Workshop B)

Workshops (A)
Track 1: How to do a Character-focused Education Donna Simpao
