Summertime is usually a period when parents seek activities and events to keep their children engaged, aside from out-of-town trips and vacations.
The more popular activities tend to involve sports or the arts. However, last year I had the privilege of witnessing young entrepreneurs learning about business and branding at a bazaar event designed especially for kids.
I think it’s brilliant that we now have workshops that deviate from the usual offerings in the market. For example, Power Mac Center’s Creativity Camp offers workshops that acknowledge the diverse interests and passions of our young learners.
But there’s more to these workshops than just being creative!
PMC’s Creativity Camp is designed for the 20th Century Learner
The workshops in PMC’s Creativity Camp will actually introduce and teach your learners skills that are useful in school, but more so, in business and corporate settings. Workshops that teach kids digital drawing, coding, 3D Art & Canva!
Canva is an extremely useful tool for social media and marketing roles! There are few remote employees or content creators who do not utilize Canva for online promotions.
Did you know that Canva has a program where you can have fun creating design templates and sell them through their platform? I know someone who has earned a couple of thousand dollars (yes, dollars!) by doing that.
You’ve probably heard concerns about how AI (Artificial Intelligence) poses a threat to graphic artists, but I don’t agree. Have you tried generating an image using these AI tools? If you can do graphics, you have a valuable skill that gives you an edge over those who can’t because you can manipulate and customize images according to your clients’ or company’s specifications.
Why am I saying all these? What does it have to do with your young learners, you ask.
Jumpstart their future digital careers
As a homeschooling mom of 15 years, one of the things we prepare our children for is real life. Homeschooling actually helps us prepare them for it earlier, both in mindset and skills.
My eldest son is an illustrator, and at 18, he is currently working on illustrating for an upcoming manga book. He is also a 3D animator who plans to break into the animation industry and make a living from it. He first learned by using open-source tools and software when he was about 6 years old, but he only learned to use digital tools for drawing when he was already 16, so he is kind of catching up in this area.
Our 15-year-old sometimes helps me with my work tasks for my clients and can navigate some of the softwares we use, but he also codes which he started learning when he was about 10 years old.
Our youngest does neither, but he is a baker who has sold several of his products online by promoting them online using digital tools like Canva. He is also the writer of the book that our eldest is illustrating.
What I’m saying here is that there are tons of opportunities for your children to not only have fun but also to learn how to make a living and manage their earnings, which are very important life skills.
My children – although this has nothing to do with their digital skills yet –have been earning from fun, little jobs here and there since they were 8.
It may not happen overnight for many, but they have to start somewhere, and Power Mac Center’s Creativity Camp is a great place to get started. The younger they begin to explore and discover what they can potentially do, the better.
All roads lead to the web
I work from home and primarily use various online tools and software to serve my clients. My husband also works with clients online. Because of this, I have realized how valuable digital skills are, especially for 21st-century learners. I’ve been in the online industry for quite some time now, and let me tell you that the highest-paid and most in-demand telecommuters are programmers and graphic artists, followed by marketing professionals.
Just so you know, all businesses now lead to the web. If you run a small business that does not utilize web resources and tools, you will fall behind your contemporaries.
On the other hand, the internet has leveled the playing field. Humble startups now have the same opportunities that large brick-and-mortar corporations have, but it all boils down to how much your child is prepared to take on the new world of technology. Don’t just hand your kids gadgets to use. Show them how to use these tools productively!

The courses being offered at Creativity Camp: Workshop for Kids & Teens are as follows:
-Draw and Share on iPad
-Calligraphy on iPad
-Code and Play with Hopscotch on iPad (Grade School)
-3D Art on Mac
-Canva Graphics on Mac
-Code and Create on Mac (High School)
-Coffee Painting (non digital skill course)
-3D Pen Magic
Each batch has 4 sessions. Classes for both grade school and high school levels are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 1-3 and 4 to 6PM.
Programs will run from April 16 to July 6 at different Power Mac Center locations: Basecamp by Power Mac Center in Glorietta 5, Makati, Power Mac Center Ayala Malls Vertis North at 2L Ayala Malls Vertis North, EDSA, Quezon City, and Power Mac Center Festival in Alabang.
There are only 10 slots for each class, so you have to pay to reserve your child’s slot. PMC Creativity Camp is on a first come, first served basis. Make sure that you inquire first for the schedule and available slots of the class you’re registering for before you transfer payment.
The fee is Php 5,500 per child for each course. However, you can register your child for 3 Creative Camp courses for a package fee of Php 15,000. This is inclusive of 3 courses of 2 hours each, equivalent to 12 sessions!
